LETS BEGIN THIS MYSTICAL MEATLESS JOURNEY!!!

I'm a HUGE fan of veggie burgers, I've gotten a few non-veg folks turned onto them. Boca burgers are ok and I've had the Burger King Morningstar which was ok as well...but veggie patch brand portabella burgers are DELICIOUS!
The texture is so simular to meat i sometimes have to remind myself that it isnt haha.
I was kinda scared when i first bought them because I'm not a fan of mushrooms but they dont taste mushroomy at all (i make my own language...you'll see)
BUY THEM!!! $5.00 (rounded up) at walmart
they're the awesomeness on a bun with some cheese and red onions

BBQ TOFU! which might i add one of my non-veg folk friends first made and had me try...
These are awesome! But if you arent accustomed to the taste of tofu
or u just dont like it...
then i suggest you really make sure to dry out the tofu in the oven.
Ive only had bbq tofu plain but it could be used in a sandwich
or cut into different shapes for kids :)

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour

Ingredients:

  • 1 block firm or extra firm tofu
  • barbeque sauce, about 1 cup
  • 1 egg
  • flour (white or wheat doesnt matter)
  • ground black pepper
  • oil (enough to cover your frying pan)

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Place cutlets of tofu (about 1/2 in thick) on baking sheet

let bake 15-30 minutes until golden brown and the tofu has lost most of its moisture

take tofu cutlets out of oven and set aside to cool while taking care of these next two steps...

(save the baking sheet you'll use it later)

in a bowl beat the egg

on a plate mix flour and pepper

heat oil in a frying pan

place the (cooled) tofu into the bowl of egg and proceed to coat and bread it with flour/ pepper mixture

place breaded tofu in frying pan

cook both sides of tofu until golden brown (or watever level of brown you desire)

place tofu back on baking sheet

brush tofu with bbq sauce

and put it back into oven at 375 degrees for 5-10 minutes

every vegetarian has their story of why....here is mine :)

My name is Victoria. I am 17, live in South Haven, MI and have never been a big fan of meat.
When I was about 9 I decided to nutritionally stray from my carnivorous family and try to be vegetarian
(though I hardly knew what it was at the time and thought people only did it for weight loss).
After about 2 weeks I grew tired of begging my mom to buy me special food and I wanted to order my happy meal and eat it too, so i gave up.
BUT ALAS! a couple months ago I walked into my family's house and smelled an awful stench of defrosting meat in the microwave.
I dont know what it was, because I had smelled it a million times before, but for some reason that day i couldnt take it and upon hitting the odor i almost threw up.
I decided then and there I would try again to become vegetarian.
So far ive had meat at least once every 2 wks, but I'm still new at this....

My purpose for this blog is 50% for myself 50% for other vegetarians or people thinking of becoming such.
I want to share good vegetarian recipes, foods, restaurants, general knowledge basically
And I can also have a place to store all my vegetarian knowledge for my own future reference :)
